Jang Choong Dong – Koreatown

Koreatown Los Angeles has a lot ton of fantastic restaurants and this one is one of my favorites. Jang Choong Dong specializes in a dish called jokbal which is braised pigs foot. The pigs foot is cooked in a bunch of different spices including scallions, gingers, garlic, and rice wine to name a few. It’s such a savory dish and tastes great when you take some of the meat and wrap it in a cabbage leaf with some kimchi.
I went with 6 friends and ordered the small jokbal and small bossam (braised big belly in the image below)

The jokbal won hands down as the best of the two. I think we could have done without the bossam because it’s pretty much the same thing as the jokbal which I believe was a bit cheaper and the jokbal has a slightly more “roasted” flavor. It did seem like overkill to order the bossam but was very good otherwise.
The meal comes with kimchi and napa cabbage wraps. You get a simple soup with the order too. I love this place. The jokbal pig skin was actually one of my favorite parts. The skin was perfectly QQ if you will. It tasted great, had a great texture, and was nice to munch on.
